Earlier in the day, we were preparing for the celebration by having Emily try on some of her traditional Chinese formal outfits. Mom thought she looked really "girlie" in the dress below, but Dad decided that the thigh cut hem lines were a little too liberal for his little girl :) So in the end we decided to go with a girls traditional blouse and pants in the same color and pattern (as shown in the group photo above)
As you can probably tell from the photo above, Emily loves to pose and play at our wardrobe mirror doors in our bedroom. This is a favorite hangout for her in the mornings when we are getting ready for work....and boy do we have finger marks on the mirrors to prove it too :)
we snapped a number of cute photos of Emily while Nancy and I were debating the choice of outfits... so naturally, I just have to share them with you here. Emily is very funny in that some days she is very very photogenic, and other days she seems professionally determined to avoid the camera at all costs. Today was a good day for the dad with the camera, though there were a few really nice poses that my camera did not capture. 
I think I have mentioned before that Emily has developed a real love for soft cuddly toys over the last few months. The little panda bear she is holding in these two photos is one of her favorites, which I think is totally appropriate for a cuddly little baby girl from Hunan China. When Emily wakes up in the morning and I lift her out of her crib, she will very often look at the stuffed toys on the shelf above her crib and point at one that she wants to hold and play with. The majority of the time, it is the little Panda she will choose too. I still remember the early days when she only recognized toys as being rattles or other hard plastic toys that made noises.
Emily is very very mobile these days, and crawls with incredible speed and coordination. Our hallway upstairs is ~30 feet long with our den at one end and our master bedroom at the other. Emily can crawl that distance in less then 10 seconds when she is in pursuit of Mom. I can only imagine what she will be like in another month or so when she is walking with no need to hold Dad's fingers for balance anymore. One thing she has taken to doing in the last week or two is to stand-up at the gate at the top of our stairs and grab it with both hands and rattle it with determination.
See, Nancy has been teaching her how to climb stairs now, and once Emily got the hang of it, she now thinks the stairs should be part of her extended playground. So she just does not understand why the gate is there, although she has observed it's principle of operation. However, going up the stairs is one thing, being able to go down them is still a learning in progress, and Emily has absolutely no fear of heights at this point. So for the forseeable future, Emily must be resigned to gate rattling.
In closing this week, I am happy to announce that we have been successful in weaning Emily completely off of bottle feeding for milk and on to a sippy cup. It was a little dicey for a few days as she rebelled. But after some persistance, we prevailed, and Emily now happily accepts her morning and evening milk in a sippy cup. We also have fully weaned her off of formula as well and she took to regular milk without skipping a beat.
Oh... by the way... Emily's Mom likes cuddly panda bears too. Bird's of a feather I guess :)
