Below you can see Dr and Mom conversing as Emily quietly decides on the best strategy to encourage the Dr to "get lost!" and leave baby alone. It does not really show in this photo, but while the two prior office visits were generally peaceful events, this one brought out the passion of baby to defend her boundaries. The Dr was actually quite pleased to see Emily had developed strong natural angst toward strangers and seeks mom or dads arms for comfort and protection.
It got a little "ugly" when the Dr needed to dig around in the left ear to extract a pesky hunk of ear wax ... with Emily applying the concept of progressive escalation of the conflict with ever louder and more passionate cries. The wax came out after a little effort and things settled down until it was time for the nurse to come in and give a pair of vaccinations. Mom and dad were both a bit startled by the amount of wax the Dr pulled out of that ear. The Dr seemed unconcerned and said he would just need to keep an eye on it as some babies generate more ear wax then others. The concept of waxy gunk in my babies ear though offends my sensibilities [I don't even like it when she has food on her face, and will promptly run for the wash cloth ], but apparently I need to leave this one in Dr's trusty hands as babies ears are pretty much off-limits to anything but visual inspection. That said, apparently the concept of waxy gunk in MY ears in turn offends my wifes sensibilities and she simply muttered something to the effect of.... "like father like daughter...she is sooooo your daughter."
When it came time for vaccinations... well.... Emily has a strict policy of pre-emptive and vocal crying when she sees the nurse, as she knows something distasteful is coming. But once we got the shots done, things settled down and baby curled up in my arms to sulk a little before getting back to her normally happy disposition.
Overall, the Dr is very happy with Emily's development. No lingering signs of any physical or developmental delays, pronouncing her healthy and normal development for a 1 year old baby.
Weight and height gain continued nicely since her last visit and the Dr was quite pleased about this too. Emily now weighs 19 lbs 6 oz, at a height of 29 inches. So she is up 1 lb from her June visit and has grown 1 inch taller as well.
By the way... that hunk of ear wax Emily was hording in her ear was notable enough to have made the "cut" as a "collectable" in the Dr's office. Apparently they collect all kinds of icky stuff ... eeeek! :-P

Looking at the picture I think ES is thinking more along the lines of "how do I take this stethoscope from him.." And I wish I looked that cute undressed.
