Week of June 4 - Haircut Time!

This week we decided to start moving Emily to the concept of a sippy cup for water intake. She will drink water from a spoon after a meal, and actually seems to enjoy it. So we thought we would start the sippy cup route for her water (leaving the daily milk meals in bottle format for now). So here we have a pair of photos.... baby with sippy cup, and baby with mom holding sippy cup. She is sooooo funny. She can and will hold the cup correctly by the handles with two hands, but will not drink on her own. She will drink from the sippy cup if mom or dad holds it. She just won't hold it and drink from it on her own yet :)
Our plan is to keep working with her on sippy cup routine and leave one near her toys during the day and encourage her to drink when she is thirsty. Once we get this routine down, then we can branch out to include apple juice in her water to make the taste a bit more interesting.

Those of you who have had a chance to meet Emily know that she has very fine dark hair. Hair that has grown significantly over the last 4-6 weeks I might add (as can be seen in this photo of Emily licking something yummy from Mom's food spoon). [Note: Emily loves to taste Mom and Dad's food spoon, pretty much no matter what we are eating] Anyway, mom made the decision on Sunday to take baby to the hair dresser for her first hair cut. Mom made the same decision for dad by the way, who just hates getting his hair cut! So off to the hair dressers we all went. It was neck & neck between Emily and dad to see which one of us squealed and fussed more in the chair at the hair dressers. I say Emily is the winner here though :)

Happily Emily has a much more civilized hair style after the visit, as evidenced in these two photos of Emily having some fun with Mom's stuffed bunny on the living room couch. Nancy said that she looks kind of "country" (China country, which is kind of the US equivalent of "hayseed") now with her new haircut, but at the same time....really really cute. Emily does look really cute with her hair trimmed in my opinion. Over the next 4-6 months we will likely have her hair lightly trimmed two more times to help encourage faster and thicker growth.

I think I had mentioned a couple weeks back that Emily had tooth number two on the way. This week we are seeing the second tooth progressing fast enough to begin to catch up with her first tooth, and there are signs of a third tooth beginning to crown.

Emily loves to stand and if we place her at the edge of the couch in the family room, she will stand and balance at the edge for long periods without need for any support for balance. Still no forward crawl yet though :) This week we will continue to reinforce the forward crawl and perhaps see Emily make forward crawl her primary method of movement. We shall see :)
