Week of July 30 - Happy Birthday Part Two ... The Banquet! :)

One celebration that is, by tradition, very significant in the life of a baby girl in China is the traditional banquet celebration on her first birthday. Nancy and her extended family being from China, naturally this tradition is something that is very important to her and her family.

So family and close family friends came together on Saturday July 29 to celebrate with a large banquet of great food..... and more great food.... and of course some more great food... (I actually lost count of all the courses after awhile, having learned over the years to just relax and pace myself at a family banquet so that I have room for the all important noodles at the end). The most important elements of a celebration banquet are: good food to warm the tummies and hearts of everyone present as this then extends then to babies life as well, noodles to celebrate long life for the baby, and of course baby being handed red packages from the family elders accompanied with lots of attention and cuddles all around for baby. And then of course we finish up with a nice great big birthday cake (prepared in the Chinese style of lite fluffy white cake, with fresh fruit filling in the center layer, a white whipped cream type of frosting to top it all off.

All in all, it was a great banquet with great food, lots of happiness and excitement, and the most fantastic noodle dish I have ever had at a banquet (each table received a huge platter with very tasty noodles topped with a huge stir-fry lobster cut into pieces and piled over the noodles). If good noodles make for a long life for baby, then Emily will indeed live a long and happy life.

Our Thanks and appreciation to all who participated in this fun and important tradition.

And now.. a few select photos from the banquet....
