Week of June 24 - Daily Adventures

This morning I awoke to the sounds of Emily calling for me. It was about 6:20 AM, so she was actually awake a bit early, and clearly had decided it was time for the family to get up and get going. From down the hall I hear Emily shouting "Daddy!" (she calls me Daddy now...yay!!) "Daddy!..come get baby!" I started laughing and yelled back that I was on the way. That was a totally improvisational phrase on Emily's part as we have never taught her to say that. She simply is putting together sentences on her own now and for the most part they are making sense and are consistent with what she wants or expresses. I have to give her two thumbs up on that one. This sort of thing has been happening a lot over the last few weeks. It's like she has made a leap in speaking abilities. She also now knows all her alphabet (kudos to Leapfrog Fridge Phonics) and can make about 2/3s of the sounds associated with each letter.

On the fun and adventures part of life for Emily, is advancing in tricycles skills as well. She is not quite comfortable with the idea of the pedals yet, preferring to push along with her feet. So we take her out front now and let her tricycle along in the private roadways in our housing community. She has a blast and will literally take off down the road if we let her. So this first set of photos shows Emily on her most recent tricycling adventure. Note: in that 3rd photo we are in fact around the corner from home and headed for the mail boxes. Emily made the trip down and back on her tricycle, while her Daddy was busy making sure there was not traffic and that the camera was active. :-P




And in other adventures, Nancy and Emily went to the mall one day recently to meet with one of Nancy's friends and children. Emily had a blast with the twin daughters of her friend and she also received a gift from them of a stuffed Big Bird (made right there at the mall). Afterwards, it was time for some fun on the computers for kids. As you can see Emily is pretty comfortable working with keyboards and displays (lots of practice on Mommy's laptop when Mommy is not looking).






One last thing to share this week. I recently bought Emily a little pink baseball cap with a butterfly embroidered on it. I set it out in her play room (I mean our family room...LOL) to see how long before she took an interest in it. She generally enjoys hats, but you just never know with Emily. Well, a few days later, sure enough, she decided to pick up the hat and start wearing it. So off I go to grab the camera and catch a few photos. Photo shooting is getting harder with Emily as she likes to tease and when she seas me aim the camera sometimes she will now laugh and turn her head away from me. I actually have a half a dozen photos of the back of her head from this last set :-). So the first two photos shows Emily up on our coffee table actually posing and smiling with her new hat on, and the last one is more Emily wearing her hat (turned around this time...LOL), and playing with her toys.
