Week of July 22 - Computers, Crosswords, Pool Time, and Birthday Card

I have shared with readers in prior posts that Emily is quite the little computer geek. Well, always the adventurer, the other night Emily came down the stairs after her bath and promptly walked over to Mommy's laptop on the living room coffee table and took over the computer. Lucky for Mommy, the keyboard was locked out at the time :)

Emily will be so happy to know that Papa (who is visiting again this week for Emily's birthday this Saturday) has bought Emily a toddler laptop learning toy. That should prove to be a BIG HIT with Emily.

Emily knows her entire alphabet now. She can say and sound every letter as well as pick them out of books and magazines when asked by either Nancy or myself. So we are working on teaching her to recognize words now. As I shared last week, Emily has opinions about this and this week while I was working with her once again with the fridge phonics on simple words, Emily decided to go in a different direction. Apparently she has an interest in crossword puzzles, or at least one would think so looking at the little crossword she constructed on the fridge. LOL, once again the words to no make sense, but I have to admire her creativity, as you can see in this next photo.

Emily had her 2 year check up with her doctor this week, and the doctor was very pleased with her level of development in speech and other cognitive skills. Emily passed her check-up with no issues, and is now 26 lbs and 33.5 inches tall. Since many children are at 50% of their adult height at age 2, this lends a prediction that she will finish her growth at 5 feet 7 inches tall. That will put her 7 inches taller then her Mommy. :) Although Emily was due for a Hep-A booster at this appointment, her Doctor has a strict policy of not giving shots right before a toddler celebrates a birthday. So since we will take her back in September for her flu shot, she will get her Hep-A at that time.

As I shared, Papa is back in town for the week to celebrate Emily's upcoming 2 year birthday. And of course with summer time here, and Emily showing a lot of enthusiasm about spending time in the pool, of course Papa was required to participate with Emily in pool time. Here is a really cute photo of Emily and Papa enjoying an afternoon pool adventure.

Emily's birthday package from Auntie Gayle arrived this week, and so we unpacked the gifts and Emily of course wanted to see the birthday card ASAP. So we let her open the envelope and see her card. Emily very promptly laughed and giggled and then said "happy birthday!". We all laughed and said, "yes, happy birthday to Emily". Below is a photo of Emily sitting on the couch in the family room enjoying her birthday card from Auntie Gayle.

Friday this week we are heading once again to Gilroy Gardens for a day of fun, adventure, and amusement rides with Emily. She had such a blast last time we went, so we expect her to have a blast again, and with Papa along this time she will get to enjoy the rides with Papa. Then on Saturday, we celebrate Emily's 2 year birthday. Yay for Emily!! It seems such a short time ago that she came home with us at just under 9 months of age. Now she is 2!! Growing up so fast!

Hi-

Linked to you through the Trapnel's! :)

Just thought you'd want to know that the "double the second birthday" rule for height only applies to boys. For girls, you double their 18 month height. It's far more accurate that doubling at age 2.

It worked perfect for my older kids, and actually, upon inspection on the baby book, for me too. It also precicts my bio daughter will be 5'9" (my height) and says my twins will be 5'0", which is typical for a Taiwanese girls from short families (which they are). Time to break out the baby book and recheck!
