OK, this year's Turkey Day was a bit different.
Normally, we have a large family pot luck at one of Nancy's aunts house. This is a large affair, averaging about 25 people on any given Thanksgiving. It is traditionally an Asian potluck, sans turkey, and so we usually prepare a Turkey meal at home on Friday the day after (to satisfy my craving for turkey and all the trimmings).
This year on Thanksgiving, the family all got together for a banquet at a favorite Chinese restaurant. It was a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving as well as the birthday of one of Nancy's aunts. Now Emily loves any outing that involves people and food (and the orphanage said she was an introvert...yeah NOT. And as it turns out, this is Emily's favorite restaurant (yep, she has a favorite!) where she gets to go with grandpa, grandma and great uncle for DimSum during the week. The food was wonderful (an 8 course banquet, but no turkey!!... boo!!) and all the kids had a great time together as well. This photo below shows Emily and mom (right) with one of her cousins (Isabella, but we all call her Bella) and Bella's mom. Aren't they adorable!!??
Now, I have to share this photo of Emily making her appearance at the entrance of the restaurant. That is a happy little girl on the move there! In fact, it was difficult to keep track of Emily the whole night (except when we had her strapped in her chair to eat) as she was constantly on the move. At a few points she took off out of the banquet area and headed down the aisle to check out what other patrons were eating, so daddy had his hands full keeping her close by and in hand :)
During the early part of the banquet, the owner of the restaurant stopped by to greet everyone at our tables. She was very happy to see Emily, as were the staff. See, Emily is quite the favorite patron at this restaurant, since she is there 1-2 times a week and apparently has charmed the owner and the staff. The owner by the way has made Emily her unofficial god-daughter and makes sure Emily always gets something special from the menu when she visits.
Later, as we were leaving, Nancy wanted to get a photo of her and Emily at the front entrance where they had poinsetta's set up for the holidays already. So these next two photos show Emily headed to moms arms, and then a really precious photo of Emily and Mom.
Now Emily has a bit of a "maaa, do I have to smile?" look on her face in that last photo, but I must say, Nancy has that heavenly look on her face in this photo. It is a look I often see when Emily is snuggled into her mommy's arms. Nancy's eyes, her soft smile really say it all....."I LOVE Emily, and it's so nice to be a mommy, especially Emily's mommy".
Now, for those of you worried about me and my turkey withdrawals, never fear. On Friday, I cooked up a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, yams, potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce, and pumkin pie. Nancy, Emily, and I ate and ate until we were totally stuffed. :)
All in all, we had a great Thanksgiving, and I am happy to say that Emily is just old enough now to really enjoy the events and the food. Yay for Emily!!!
