The Dr Visit - 15 Month Check-up

Yep yep... it was that time again.

On November 1, we took Emily to visit her Dr again for the 15 month check-up. Bless her little heart, as soon as we got her into the patient room and started to undress her.... the agnst and tears and protests got into full swing (good memory I guess). First step was the measurements, which Emily was not pleased about at all.

When it came time for the nurse to weigh Emily... protests went to the turbocharged extreme with her crying very loudly and very emphatically, reaching anxiously for me to pick her up as I try to hold her still while the scale weight is set.

Things faired a little better when the Dr came in to perform her check-up. I have to say, the Dr is really good at doing the physical exam without causing much undo stress for Emily. The Dr is truly a master at distraction with the tongue depressor, as he was pretty much able to complete all his checks while Emily stayed in Moms lap and the Dr coaxed her to different positions with the tongue depressor.

Then of course, the last step is always those dang vaccinations! Nancy agreed this time around to hold Emily, since it traumatizes Dad to do this part, and Nancy did very well. Emily received two vaccinations, plus her first round of flu shot (we go back next month for the second flu shot and then one more vaccination as the Dr wanted to spread the shots out a bit since she had to come in for a second flu shot anyway).

Doctors Report: Emily remains healthy, with continued normal development. He assesses Emily to be slightly ahead of her age in terms of cognitive and speaking skills. Tooth development (she has 5 at the moment) appears to be normal, with significant gum development indicating a flurry of new teeth to come in the next several months. Weight = 21 lbs 9 oz (continuing on her track of 25th percentile index avg for weight. Height = 31 inches (continuing on her track of 75th percentile index avg for height). This is Emily's 3rd visit where weight/height index 25%/75% on the baby avg index, so the Dr is both comfortable and pleased with her continued consistency of growth and says she has likely settled into her genetic norm now for growth. [As a reference point, Emily was 0%/25% in the weight/height index at her first visit shortly after she came home from China]. Notwithstanding Nancy's continued concern that Emily may become too fat, the Dr insists that we continue to feed her however much she wants to eat.

Oh...remember that nasty case of earwax I reported last time at the 12 month check-up?! No repeat this time, so we seem to be past Emily collecting wax now. :)

And that was that! All done! Soon as Emily was outside the office, life returned to normal and she was ready and searching for some fun time.
