Emily did not require any shots this time around, but it was no less traumatic then the usual visit. Emily is a firm believer in what I call the pre-emptive cry. Cry early, cry loudly, cry a lot. So that is pretty much what Emily did, from the moment I put her up on the examining table to begin undressing for the weigh-in, until the Dr finally concluded his examination and quietly exited stage-right. It was funny to see Emily pushing the Dr away with both hands in a very emphatic show of boundaries this time around. Being the clever Dr that he is though, he prevailed with a minimum of fuss, even though Emily got really upset about the whole ordeal.
So the stats for the 18 month checkup are: great continued progress in speech, cognitive, and physical motor skills, with the Dr commenting that Emily continues to be a bit ahead of her age in speech and cognitive skills and right on target in motor skills. Emily by the way now as a regular collection of words in both English and Mandarin to her credit. Combined we are estimating she has ~ 50-60 (roughly evenly divided between English and Mandarin) words to her credit now and as reported last week, she is beginning to construct sentences on her own now. Emily remains on track for height/weight at 32 inches and 23 lbs (70/25 on the growth charts and this is consistent with her other visits so this seems to be her genetic norm). I would add that Emily continues to be remarkably healthy. Emily has not been sick since her minor head cold while in Guangzhou early last year, so she is doing really well all around.
In fairness to Emily, it seemed appropriate to let her have a treat for completing the Dr's visit, even if it was a bit of a protest all the way. So in these two photos below you will see that Emily has scored one of her very favorite treats, a balloon! Not just any balloon either, this one is a pooh bear balloon and you will notice that that balloon is bigger then she is too!!
And of course I have to note that Emily can (and does) wrangle that balloon from one end of the house to the other with the greatest of ease.
The last photo to share with you today is a very recent photo of "computer geek" Emily in action with Mom's laptop. Emily likes to hold her hands in two hand typing position just like Mom and Dad and pretend to be typing away. That said, no...she does not type yet :P, but she does know how to work the trackpoint with her finger and can move the cursor around the screen and will click on active areas on the screen. In this particular photo, Emily is actually playing at the Sprout Channel's web site where they have a number of short flash videos to view. Emily can select them and play them pretty well actually, with just a little setup help from Mom and and the occasional assistance.

Oh my gosh! The pix of Emily holding out her balloon (in a rather impish pose, I might add) are just too adorable for words. It's as if she's thinking..."It's mine. All mine. I earned it. (on a sigh...) Pooh!"
Good news on the ped. visit. Way to go, EP, on having such a healthy kid!
