Week of December 9 - Car Concepts, From An Emily Perspective

Emily has three toy cars that she loves to play with. They are from the Parenting Magazine line of toys that are commonly sold at Target. They are the kind that when you back them up on their wheels they wind up for a fast spin forward and Emily learned some number of months back how to work them for forward movement. This of course requires a hard surface, so naturally these little cars are often under foot in the kitchen these days and we have to keep an eye out for them.

The really interesting part though is that Emily has developed a very firm opinion as to which car is for Daddy, which is for Mommy, and which is for Emily. I shot a photo of the three cars, lined up neatly in a row (which is very often how we find them in different parts of the house as Emily is very particular about parking the cars in a line).

According to Emily: The car on the right, the yellow one which has a taxi sign on top of it, is Daddy's car. The one in the middle, the cute little blue VW beetle style car, is Mommy's car. And the one on the left, the flashy little convertible with sporty rear spoiler, well that one is Emily's. My daughter.....already making sure she has a sports car. LOL

Now, I have to say that while you can discuss the subject of which car belongs to each of us with Emily, and try to tease her about which one belongs to who, she remains firmly adamant about the car assignments as described above. Sometime Emily brings her cars into the kitchen and then wants Nancy and I to each play with her (by steering and moving our assigned car of course). That's our daughter, always organizing and assigning activities and agendas inside the household. :)

Moving from toy cars to real cars, Emily loves going for rides in the car. As soon as she knows either Nancy or I are planning on going somewhere, then she is immediately up and ready to go, heading for her shoes and coat in the living room. It does not seem to really matter where we are going, just that we are going out somewhere and that it involves a car ride to get there. :) This next photo shows Emily all strapped in, with a pair of her favorite sun glasses on, ready for Daddy to take her for a car ride.

And while I am the introvert in the household, and tend to get worn down by going shopping, driving around town, and trying to work my way through crowds; Emily and Nancy are both extroverts and they thrive in this kind of stuff. Like Mother, like daughter. :)
