week of June 15 - Emily At School

Emily began full day preschool this month. We drop her off in the morning around 8:00 and then pick her up after work. The first hour in the morning is free play time for the kids while they all arrive. At 9:00 they begin their formal session, which is a combination learning exercises, group social activities, and then afternoon play time.

Over all, Emily seems to enjoy school, though it is still a little bit of drama some days when we drop her off. She wants Nancy and I to stay with her in school. And there is not easy way to do this other then to give her a hug and a kiss, and then make a break for the exit. The teachers have been very supportive of her during this initial transition time and the daily reports show that other then that initial morning time of feeling sorry for herself when we drop her off, she is doing well otherwise. She is making new friends and has some best friends already picked out in the class.

Here is a couple of photos from Emily's first day in school (which by the way was something she was quite excited about and not dramatic or emotional at all). In fact, the first day was more like "OK Mommy and Daddy, you go now, Emily stay and play". In fact on the first day, she walked over to one of the couches next to the books, picked up a book and sate down on the couch between two boys and started reading. :)



Most of the kids in Emily's class are old timers at the school so they already know each other and have relationships established. Emily is however very outgoing so she has really not struggled much in making friends in class. The teachers report that she interacts well with the other kids, and likes group social times, especially singing times.

So, all in all, while a little morning drama some days, Emily is adapting quite well to school and is thriving there.

They grow up so fast!
